The new ballroom will be able to accommodate up to 650 guests, more than triple the capacity of the existing East Room, which currently holds around 200. Trump and his team argue that the current White House does not offer sufficient indoor space for large-scale events, often forcing the use of temporary tents on the South Lawn. The ballroom is intended to solve this long-standing issue, creating a permanent, grand venue for state functions, formal dinners, and large ceremonial gatherings. Construction is set to begin in September 2025, with a goal of completing the project before the end of Trump's current term. The expansion will be privately funded through what Trump has called “patriot donors,” with an estimated cost of $200 million.
